Great video. RIP Mr Savides.
Overrated boring story. Snorefest.
This was an absolutely fascinating look into what seems like a forgotten cinematography classic. The style and storyboarding is on par with modern noir and so much of it was captured exactly as envisioned. Growing up with classic movies well before my generation I never saw or heard of this until now. Cool stuff.
A true criminally underated masterpiece of cinema. Its outstanding. I wish nick asked more questions about the making of it rather than focus on the box office
I was 21 in college when my "music" major roommate invited me to watch Dreams (particularly because we were high). I was frightened, shocked and blown away through and through (probably because I was high). But I'll never forget the first time I saw this movie. (I recommend watching it high.)

thank you for uploading this
The piano showed me, a male, the intricate and misterious of femininity. It was the achievement. At that moment I was taking genre studies at the University, and every scene of this film meant something deep, so deep that there were, and there are tiny details of the film that, I know, are not casual. Jane Campion, the jungle, and Holly Hunter were my teachers about people with uterus.
The interview started well, but Winding Refn didn't listen, kept repeating himself and ended up sounding arrogant with that refrain of his. It would have sounded better if he'd asked 'what would you advise or tell your younger self'. Instead he made it all about him with his 'I am a younger you' stuff. Spoiled it really.
Masterful cinema this film!
i watched the 2 1/2 hour version, IT WAS AWESOME...
Roger Deakins. Now I know that Wall E was so well shot. Way better than most animated movies.
The rustling of Tony's lav mic and the background noise of the interviewee are a bit distracting. Apart from that, great video
Yuuup,... Even if the Focus Puller is using a wifi connected rig, having them right there with us, where they can see our body language and those subtle pushes and pulls both to follow an actor or to change the drama, it's essential information that improves what the audience sees.
jaja Muy bueno
Missing PANAVISION PANAFLEX PLATINUM motion picture cameras.
Rack Focus looks great if done right.
One the great living DOP's of the modern era.
wow knows whats in focus without looking, no thats impressive
It's a lot of practice. Can do it with TV too, once you know the lens. How he said about pulling back from infinity on the Imax, it's the same for TV sports, you can get 'acceptably in focus', or Actually In Focus, and it changes the impact so much, where the fans are cheering a play, or they feel they were part of the play.
Just attended a Hawk event and was blown away by pretty much all their offerings. Excellent lenses--- something about those 74's though!
Vilmos seems like a lovely soul
That boom mic guy tip is *amazing* thank you so much for uploading this!
I also liked that!
What do you mean?
@@theowlfromduolingo7982 Tony mentions that the boom swinger can sometimes guide where to push the focus depending on who we're listening to.

Yes, but you missed your mark.....
It's Manderly not Mandalay!
Every film production, big or small, should have a dedicated bts filmographer on set. Insights like this make me get more out of the movie.
I'm watching the movie now. Love the chase scene!! Best car chase ever!!
thank you, we owe you one
this is the time when Wes Anderson was just starting to become Wes Anderson.
I cant shake the feeling that Bill Murray is not a happy person in normal life. its as if hes happier slaving away playing a miserable guy in a Wes Anderson movie than being miserable in everyday life
Legend❤
I notice YT took off the shooting scene

The confidence it takes to COMMIT to that look and flash the ..... NEGATIVE, before it's developed !! I LOVE IT.
Love this film. The b@w made sense because the characters always want to get back to colour. I.e. life!
Growing up in the 1980s, the BBC used to have a late movie around 11 pm on Friday nights in the UK and Ireland, and the Parallax View would be one of the movies in that slot each year or so. I have fond memories of seeing it, and it has left an impression on me. I still watch it each year.
